Calculate with confidence
Clear formulas, practical results, and the right calculation for the price you have.
Net to gross
VAT equals net price × VAT rate. Gross price equals net price × (1 + VAT rate).
Extract VAT correctly
For a VAT-inclusive price, divide the gross total by (1 + rate). At 20%, the VAT fraction of gross is 20/120, not 20/100.
Country-aware presets
Standard rates differ across Europe, and reduced, zero, special, or regional rates may apply. Edit the rate for the actual supply.

Frequently asked questions
Answers to common calculation and tax-rate questions.
How do I add VAT to a price?
Multiply the net price by 1 plus the VAT rate as a decimal. At 20%, a net price of 100 becomes 120 gross.
How do I remove VAT from a gross price?
Divide the gross price by 1 plus the VAT rate. At 20%, 120 ÷ 1.20 gives a net price of 100 and VAT of 20.
Why not subtract 20% from a VAT-inclusive price?
Because 20% VAT is calculated on the net price. In a 120 gross total, the VAT is 20/120 of gross, or 16.67%.
Do all products use the standard VAT rate?
No. Reduced, super-reduced, zero, exempt, or special rates may apply depending on the product, customer, and region.
Are EU VAT rates the same everywhere?
No. Each country sets its rates within EU rules, and some territories have separate regimes.
Can I use this for invoices?
It can estimate invoice values, but official invoices may require line-level rounding and specific tax, exemption, or reverse-charge treatment.
